I love Germany for its rich culture and its amazing food. Think hotdogs, currywursts, schnitzels, etc etc. Food is also very affordable in Germany so if you run out of things to do in Berlin, go on a food trail! Here's a list of amazing food that you should eat when in Berlin!
Burgermeister has the best burgers in Berlin! Located in a tiny little store under the train tracks of U-Bahnhof Schlesisches Tor, that was formerly a toilet. Eeks, I know! But you will be blown-away by their smoky meisterburger! This burger consists of bacon, sweet caramelised onions and crunchy vegetables. The sweet caramelised onions went really well with the savoury bacon and beef patty making you crave for more!
This little joint has zero seating area and you'll have to stand and share the space with the other customers. It is an extremely popular burger bar. Do order a plate of fries, and when in Germany, a bottle of beer!

Another street food snack. I would hunt down every Yorma whenever I am in Germany and will have a pretzel for breakfast! My favourite's their sour cream and chives pretzel! The soft and creamy sour cream and the chives goes really well together! It is soooo yummy and I can't get enough of it. There was this one time that I was so sad that I was leaving Germany that I munch down three at one go and got so bloated... But those calories are worth it!
This is also a great snack to bring along if you have a long train ride! They also do have other flavours of pretzel - those with ham and cheese, etc.

Currywurst IS the Berlin food specialty, there is even a museum dedicated to explaining the history behind currywurst! You can pretty much find it anywhere but where to find the BEST currywurst?
The key to a good currywurst has got to be the sausage used, and the sauce! Many would argue that you'll get the best one from Curry 36. It is nice, but you should also look at other options! There's also Curry 61, Curry Mitte, and Curry Baude.
Or, have it all with a private district tour that offers Currywurst at the end!
Not exactly a German food, or did it even come from Berlin, but we loved Wok To Walk. There are many outlets located throughout Berlin and you can get your fix of Asian / Chinese food, take out style!
Choose from a selection of noodles or rice, your toppings, and sauce, and you'll have your meal. This place is also a great place for Asians to have their Asian fix!

If you're visiting during Christmas, be sure to check out their various Christmas Markets. We settled dinner in the markets for every single night when we were there! There was a great selection of food that were reasonably priced and oh-so-delicious! Below are some of the foods that you can get in the markets!
Crepes with chocolates and banana are the best! :D
Waffles with Frosted Sugar. The waffles are hot and crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside. They are especially tasty on a hot hot day!
Berlin does great mushroom stews! They cook it in a pot and add lots of herbs, letting it stew in the pot to soak in all the wonderful flavours. When they are ready to serve, they would scoop it into a bowl, and top it out with some cream and sauce. Yummmm, it is absolutely delicious and has an extremely rich flavour!
You can't leave out this Bavarian cuisine! Berliners love their grilled meats. In Christmas markets, it is common to see large round grills that you put meat on, and let them cook well. They are usually served with sauerkraut and grilled potatoes. It is so fatty, but still these are great fats that you'll want to put on to keep you warm during the cold winter month!
Don't leave Germany without trying their beers, or during winter, try out the Gluhwein (mulled wine) that are served hot. Try also the Glogg which is a vodka and red wine mix, served with crushed almonds and raisins! For the younger ones, the hot chocolate with whipped cream is certainly a delight to have!
German markets would also serve you all these drinks in an actual glass (bye-bye styrofoam and plastic cups!) with a deposit that you can refund after you return the glasses when you slurped down your drinks.
