Hotel Review: Chic and Basic Lemon Boutique Hotel in Barcelona, Spain

Updated: Mar 14, 2019

Where to stay in Barcelona, Spain? Chic and Basic Lemon Boutique Hotel

Wondering where to stay in Barcelona, Spain? The best area, in my opinion, is somewhere close to Plaza Cataluyna (or Placa de Catalunya), the city centre. Besides it being where the old city and the 19th-century-built Eixample meets, many main streets in Barcelona coincides at the large central square. This is the area where all the action is!

The surroundings - Plaza Catalunya

Looking for shopping in Barcelona?

You'll want to be on Passeig de Garcia, Rambla de Catalunya, Portal de l'Angel, and La Rambla which all meets at Place de Catalunya.

Looking for the best foods?

La Boqueria market can be found on La Rambla, minutes walk away from the Plaza. There's also great tapas restaurants like the Txapela that is a few minutes walk away. It opens till slightly past midnight on weekdays, and till 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays so it is a great place for a midnight snack.

Also, if you are to take the bus from the airport, Plaza Catalunya is one of the stops. Since we arrived close to midnight, we decided that we didn't want to worry about the public transport closure timings so looking for accommodation in Barcelona needs to be close to the main square.

When we were in Barcelona the previous time, we stayed in Hotel Pelayo at Carrer de Pelai and found the location to be extremely convenient. There was a Macdonalds nearby that opens till late and we could find supermarkets nearby too. However, the property was to be honest, a little dated and we wanted an "upgrade".

We combed everywhere and found Chic & Basic Lemon Boutique Hotel that was on the same street, just opposite Hotel Pelayo. It was also only about 87 euros per night (given that we also booked really late, just 2 weeks before our trip!).

Chic & Basic Lemon Boutique Hotel Room

The room was clean, neat and cosy-looking. I especially love the wood grain tiles that made the room really welcoming. There was sufficient space for two, plus our not-so-large luggage.

Also, we liked that we could access the property 24/7. We arrived late and the location of the hotels made it easy for us to grab supper and head back.

The Facilities

Besides the room, this chain hotel also provides daily breakfast at a fee. We didn't try the breakfast since there was a plethora of great food in Barcelona that we wanted our save our stomach for that! The great thing that we really liked is that we get unlimited supply of water from their breakfast area every day! Especially on our first night where the supermarkets were already closed, that additional perk was life-saving!

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay in the hotel and would definitely plan to visit again. The Chic and Basic hotel chain also has other branches in Barcelona but this was the most centrally-located property in our opinion.
