A trip to Victoria Peak, Hong Kong

Updated: Oct 24, 2022

Victoria Peak Tram, Hong Kong

Victoria Peak is the highest point of Hong Kong island and is the most exclusive neighbourhood in Hong Kong, ever since the colonial era. Since it is located on higher ground, it provides a magnificent view of Hong Kong.

It is best to visit Victoria Peak in the evening where you will be able to enjoy the view of Hong Kong's cityscape and have a great dinner amidst an amazing view. Even if you only have time in the day, The Peak Hong Kong is a must-have in your Hong Kong itinerary!

How to get to Victoria Peak, Hong Kong? What are my transport options?

1. The Peak Tram

Going on a ride up Victoria Peak by the Peak Tram is an experience in itself! The tram ride, as well as the queue! :( We highly recommend you to purchase the SkyPass online to save the time to queue up for the tickets. You may also wish to get the Fast Pass that offers you a priority lane to board the tram. We went on a weekday evening and there was a snaking queue that took about 30 minutes for us to reach the ticketing counter. We also had to enviously watch those who just displayed their e-ticket at the entrance and enter straight away! The SkyPass and the Fast Pass does not just grant you access to the tram ride, it also allows you to hide up to the Sky Terrace 428, a 360 degrees observatory deck at the Peak that offers panoramic view of the city. Otherwise, just avoid the 5pm - 7pm peak hour altogether.

The Peak Tram Lower Terminus is easily accessible via a short walk from Central MTR station (Exit K). Do also note that the Peak Tram services stop at 12 midnight.

2. Public Buses

  • From Central Pier 8, you can take bus 15C that goes up to Victoria Peak

  • From Exchange Square Bus Terminus (MTR Hong Kong Station, Exit D), take bus 15

  • From Public Transport Interchange (MTR Hong Kong Station, Exit E), take minibus 1

3. One-way Downhill Bus

On Fridays and Saturdays (which are the Peak's most crowded days), you may also wish to choose to take the shuttle that will bring you from the Peak Tower back to Wan Chai MTR, Exit A4. The pick up point is the entrance of the Peak Tower (where Burger King is located) at 8pm. You can purchase the tickets online.

4. Taxi

Otherwise, the other option is to take a taxi. Taxis are plentiful in Hong Kong and you can always flag them down at the side of the road. All cabs are metered and air-conditioned.

What to do at Victoria Peak?

When you get to the top, if you have bought the SkyPass, head to the Sky Terrace 428 observatory to get a Panoramic View of the cityscape. Otherwise, when you experience great Hong Kong weather, you can also get a great view of the city right outside the tower.

Another popular attraction that is found at the Peak is the Madame Tussauds Hong Kong. You can opt to purchase the tickets by itself, or there are actually also combo tickets where you'll get the Peak Tram tickets (one-way), priority lanes, Sky Terrace 428, and the Madame Tussauds Entrance Tickets.

For those who absolutely love chocolate, you may also consider heading to the Art of Chocolate Museum. The museum showcase various sculptures that are made fully out of chocolate. There's also a chocolate workshop where you can create a picture with a chocolate pen! This will definitely be an exciting experience for your little ones! Don't leave the museum without purchasing some of those delectable chocolates as souvenirs or for you to munch on.

What to eat at Victoria Peak?

There are also multiple shops and dining options at the Peak. There used to be the ever popular Tsui Wah restaurant at the Peak where you'll get great Hong Kong food at affordable prices. Now, you can try out the American family-friendly chain Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. at the Peak. You can purchase the vouchers online and walk in on the date that you've bought it for. They are one of the four restaurants at the Peak Tower where you can dine with a fantastic view of the skyline. The other three are Wildfire+ (serves pizza), Lu Feng (dim sum), Fujiyama Mama (japanese cuisine). Otherwise, there's also fast food chains like Burger King and snacks like the Kala Cheese Toast Specialists, an instagram-worthy RAINBOW cheese toast!
