Churros and Porras for breakfast in Madrid

A common breakfast for Spaniards is the Churros Con Chocolate. Fancy a sweet breakfast? Head over to Chocolateria San Gines in Madrid, just slightly off Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol.

From Puerta del Sol, walk along Calle Mayor, past the famous La Mallorquina, Wok to Walk and you will see this at the second alley. It didn't look that crowded as this was in the evening, but be prepared to face a huge crowd of tourists and locals in the morning! Like how we enjoyed Madrid's Jamon, we also visited Chocolateria San Gines everyday that we were here. Sometimes for a mid-day snack, or for supper.

There's actually two entrances, and this is the entrance for the stand-up counter experience. If you would like a sit-down experience, turn right and join the other queue. You can choose to have it at their standing bar, or a sit at their cafe. Different prices for both, so choose whichever that suits your budget.

Each of their churro order gets you five pieces of this amazing fried churros. Do order it with a thick hot chocolate to dip your churros in. You can also get packets of sugar at the counter if you prefer yours with sugar.

We are seriously missing this oily but oh-so-good churros!

They also serves Porras which is a thick dough, less crispy than the popular churros. We didn't quite like the Porras but we saw many of the locals ordering it.

As you can see in the receipt, all of these: Churros, Porras, Freshly squeezed orange juice, and Hot Chocolate only for 8.50 euros (~13.60 sgd).
