Consider heading to Lisbon, Portugal for a inexpensive European Adventure!

Updated: Mar 13, 2023

Many Singaporeans dream to head to Europe, perhaps to see famous landmarks like the Big Ben, Eiffel Tower, etc. But the high prices often deter many from taking that flight out. So why not visit Portugal where prices are very affordable for your first European Adventure? Plus, it is extremely charming too!

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is Portugal's coastal capital that embraces modern culture while retaining many of its historic buildings, local heritage and culture.

Feast on its local cuisine, and explore the city's colourful buildings and coastal regions. There's just a lot to do in Lisbon. If you are thinking of visiting Lisbon, it would be good to allocate at least 3 days to this beautiful city.

How to get to Lisbon?

Fly into Aeroporto de Lisboa, an international airport, via international carriers or the low-cost carriers (Find the best flight deals on Skyscanner!). Lisbon is also the gateway to exploring the rest of Portugal and you can get the Eurail pass for cheaper train tickets.

Travelling into Lisbon from Spain? Train travel is pretty convenient :)

Just like Barcelona, Lisbon has its beaches really close to the city.

Lisbon, Portugal, Cable Car

You could take a cablecar across the beach area to view the magnificent urban landscape on one side, and a beautiful view of the ocean on the other.

There's also a lot to eat in Lisbon!

Belem Tarts, Lisbon, Portugal

One of the must-eats are the iconic Belem egg tarts, best devoured when it is piping hot. We went to try one, but ended up ordering another few more (oops) portions and even returned on another day because we just can't get enough of it!

Accommodation's also pretty decent. You could stay in one of their apartments to experience a true Portuguese experience. We stayed at Hotel Milanesa and paid only about 25 euros per night!

To get around Lisbon, you can take their public transportation, buy the City Card, or try out the hop-on-hop-off bus services for a fuss-free way of exploring the city.

There's also many malls in which you can shop to your heart's content!

What's great also is that Lisbon's weather in the Winter Season is GREAT! There'll still be some days with plenty of sunshine and weather that is cool and airy.

So, if you're planning for a European getaway, why not consider Lisbon, a still relatively underrated city. It is becoming a little more known as the moment I type, so plan this trip soon!
