On this trip to Europe, we've decided to head over to Strasbourg in France after spending a couple of days in Frankfurt to explore a little bit of this fairytale French city. We explored various transportation options, finally deciding upon the train.

Travel to Strasbourg by Train

Opting for the train offers a convenient and scenic way to travel between Frankfurt and Strasbourg. The journey typically takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on the type of train and route chosen. Direct trains operated by Deutsche Bahn (DB) and SNCF run regularly throughout the day, providing comfortable seating and onboard amenities for travellers.

We decided upon this particular mode of transport as our end point was Strasbourg!

Get on the Bus to Strasbourg

If you want to save a bit on transport, travelling by bus offers a budget-friendly alternative for those seeking economical transportation options. Several bus companies, such as FlixBus and Eurolines, operate routes between Frankfurt and Strasbourg, with varying travel times and prices. While the journey may take longer compared to the train, buses provide flexibility and the opportunity to enjoy the scenic countryside along the way.

Go on a drive to Strasbourg by Car

We would have chosen this option if we were to travel to more cities like visiting Europa Park or other little cities along the way. Driving is always a great way as you get to enjoy and go slow (or fast) when visiting a new place.

For travellers seeking flexibility and independence, renting a car offers the freedom to explore at your own pace. The drive from Frankfurt to Strasbourg takes approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. The route follows well-maintained highways, offering smooth driving and opportunities to stop and explore charming towns and attractions along the route.

Tips for a Smooth Journey from Frankfurt to Strasbourg

Book tickets in advance

Whether traveling by train or bus, securing tickets ahead of time can help ensure availability and may offer discounted fares. We bought our tickets about 2 months in advance, and paid 98 euros for 2 pax on SCNF.

Check schedules

Be sure to verify train and bus schedules to plan your journey accordingly, taking into account travel times and potential connections. Always always go to the train station earlier as well to check which platform you'll need to go. Even though unlike flights, you don't have to "check-in" 2 hours prior, it can still be a mad rush if you find out that your train's platform is all the way on the other end of the station.

Pack essentials

Don't forget to bring along essential items such as snacks, water, travel documents, and any necessary medications to ensure a comfortable journey.

Explore transportation hubs

Take advantage of convenient transportation hubs in both Frankfurt and Strasbourg, which offer easy connections to other destinations and amenities for travellers.

With its blend of historical charm and modern allure, Strasbourg beckons travellers to explore its cobblestone streets, Gothic architecture, and vibrant culinary scene. Whether you choose to travel by train, bus, or car, embarking on the journey from Frankfurt to Strasbourg promises an unforgettable adventure filled with scenic vistas, cultural discoveries, and lasting memories. So pack your bags, plan your route, and get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey from Frankfurt to Strasbourg!
