Taiwanese Night Markets, Taipei, Taiwan

There's just so much to do in Taipei and what I really love about it is that your day wouldn't just end when the sun goes down. There's still so much to do - especially night markets!

I love visiting night markets. It is always bustling with activities with so much to see and do. I could people-watch while standing at the side of the pavements, or purchase affordably priced food to snack away. Here are the top 3 night markets or places to go at night when in Taipei!

1. ShiLin Night Market

ShiLin is the largest and most popular night market in Taipei! There are tons of shops and food stores for you to try. Should you wish to have something more filling, there's also the ShiLin Underground Food Centre!

This is a smaller but cosier night market. When you are here, you absolutely need to try the peppered pork bun! There's a long queue but it is definitely worth the wait, for more food options, read: 9 must-eat street snacks at RaoHe Night Market.

How to get to RaoHe Night Market?

Rao He Night Market is easily accessible via metro. Take the Songshan-Xindian Line to the end till Songshan Station. From there, it is just a short 2-minute walk to the night market. When you're there, exit the station using Exit 1 or 5 and walk to the Songshan Ciyou Temple. The temple is majestic at night and you'll find this red entrance of the RaoHe Night Market by the temple!

3. Shi Da Night Market

The ShiDa Night Market is best for the young, or the young-at-heart! Located close to the National Taiwan Normal University (師範大學), is where most of the university undergraduates hang out after class!

A rather compact night market, you can find lots of students purchasing takeaways and heading back to class or their supplementary class! The best part of ShiDa Night Market are its stationary store that sells cheap notebooks, notepads, pens, pencils, basically everything you need for school!

When you're there, don't forget to try their bing xue bo luo you (菠蘿包), a milk-crusted bun with a slab of butter stuck in-between. Though it is a typical Hong Kong snack, the Taiwanese touch of a hot bun alongside the cold butter makes for a tasty treat! It was so delicious and addictive that we each had two bun each... Oops!

How to get to Shida Night Market?

Shida is one of the night markets that is located a further walk away from the metro station. Nonetheless, it is worth heading over for their cheap clothing and interesting stationary! To get there, take the green line 3 to Taipower Building Station. Once you are there, head to Exit 3, make a right turn and then another right turn to reach ShiDa Road. The market is located along both ShiDa road as well as located in the alleys off both sides.
