If Midvalley Southkey mall and St Giles Hotel is too crowded for you or if you're one of the few that are bored of shopping at Midvalley, then you have to consider this brand new hotel opened right on top of Johor Bahru's Paradigm Mall!
From its strategic spot with direct access to Paradigm Mall to its sumptuous breakfast, I'm here to give you the inside scoop and hotel review of the newly opened Hyatt Place Johor Bahru.
About Hyatt Place Johor Bahru Paradigm Mall
This hotel opened just last month (November 2023) and on my 2D1N trip to Johor Bahru to clear my leave, I've decided to stay at this property. Because it was a new hotel, I also enjoyed its opening rates at only about 400 RM per night. I believe it was actually cheaper as I only made my reservation 2 nights before my stay.
Paradigm Mall is located along the Skudai Highway and it is closer to the Tuas second checkpoint as compared to Woodlands checkpoint. As such, it sees fewer traffic from Singaporeans. It also has fewer popular shops and f&b options but for those who looking for activities to do, from rock-climbing, karaoke, and archery, you can find them all at Paradigm Mall. Watching a late night movie is convenient too, as this means you can retreat back into your room once the movie ends.
How are the hotel rooms at Hyatt Place Johor Bahru?
At Hyatt Place Johor Bahru in Paradigm Mall, the rooms are designed for modern comfort and functionality, offering a cozy retreat after a day of exploring or shopping within the mall. Because it is so new, everything is spick and span. I particularly like the wood-grain tiles and the carpet right under the bed so you don't have to wake up to cold floors!
The rooms strike a balance between style and practicality, featuring contemporary decor with clean lines and warm tones that create a welcoming ambiance. Expect spacious layouts with comfortable bedding, ensuring a restful night's sleep. You get to choose King beds or twin bedrooms facing either the city or the pool. We got the poolview room which was great! It did overlook the Skudai highway but because the glass was so thick, we couldn't hear anything and rested really well at night.
The rooms are also well-equipped with modern amenities to cater to the needs of today's travelers, including a plush Hyatt Grand Bed, a dedicated work area with a desk, a sofa to relax on, a flat-screen TV for entertainment, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi for staying connected. For business travellers, you'll also have your ironing board and iron to get ready for your conferences. The usual safe, hair dryer, kettle, bottled water, coffee and tea, towels, hangers, toiletries are all provided in the room. If you need anything else on top of these like bedroom slippers or comb, you can always ask for it from the reception on Level 7.
A key difference between Hyatt Place and St Giles is that you can clearly see the international Hyatt product here. Wall plugs are plentiful, featuring smart design, optimizing space without compromising on comfort. The layout allows for a relaxing atmosphere while offering functional spaces for work or leisure. The overall ambiance exudes a sense of tranquility, providing a haven to unwind and recharge amidst the buzz of Johor Bahru's vibrant surroundings.
The facilities at Hyatt Place Johor Bahru
At Hyatt Place Johor Bahru in Paradigm Mall, guests are treated to a range of facilities that elevate their stay, including a refreshing pool and a well-equipped gym.
The outdoor pool is a tranquil oasis amid the urban bustle, offering a delightful spot for relaxation and rejuvenation. Surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs, lush greenery, and a calming ambiance, it's an ideal place to unwind after a day of exploring Johor Bahru. I must say though, that you can still hear the sounds of the cars on the highway. But with all the decor and the nice hall walls built, you'll feel like you're in a protected little sanctuary!
For those seeking to maintain their fitness routine while traveling, the hotel's 24 hours gym offers modern equipment and facilities. Featuring a variety of cardio machines, strength-training equipment, and free weights, the gym caters to various workout preferences. Here is where you could also refill your bottles with waterpoints within the gym and shower rooms located right outside.
How about the breakfast at Hyatt Place Johor Bahru?
At Hyatt Place Johor Bahru within Paradigm Mall, the breakfast experience is a delightful start to the day, offering a good spread of options to cater to different tastes and preferences. It is by no means expansive, but you'll find almost everything you'd expect in a buffet breakfast ranging from continental favorites to local delights. You can enjoy a variety of freshly baked pastries, bread, cereals, and yogurt for a lighter start. For those craving heartier options, there are hot selections featuring eggs, sausages, bacon, and other breakfast classics like Nasi Lemak and Roti Canai.
I particularly like the sitting area of the breakfast region. You know how sometimes hotel breakfast can be in a dark, enclosed region? Here, you can choose to sit right next to the windows on the lower ground of the pool deck. With the sun rays shining in, ahhh.. the perfect start of the day!
One of the highlights of the breakfast is the availability of a freshly squeezed orange juice machine. This feature adds a refreshing touch to the morning routine, allowing guests to indulge in the goodness of freshly squeezed orange juice—a vibrant and healthy way to kickstart the day.
In conclusion
Even though this property has the Hyatt brand, I would remind travellers that Hyatt Place is the more affordable counterpart as compared to Grand Hyatt and Park Hyatt - its luxury properties. The experience we had at Hyatt Place Johor Bahru is quite close to that we had at Amari Hotel Johor Bahru and Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru, but with the amazing connectivity to Paradigm Mall and the good price point with breakfast, it is definitely worth another stay on our next trip to JB!
